NEW INFO FOR ARM-DROP RACE as of Tuesday, November 11, 2008

The Arm Drop team has sent us a revised format for their December 5 & 6 race. At their last event, they worked out a format that was supported by the racers and fans, and they would like to use the same race format at all of their future races.

Racers will be required to put an estimated E-T on the top right-hand of their tech card. Time trials will be called to the lanes for qualifying runs based upon their E-T group. Such as, “9-second racers to lanes 5,6,7, & 9 … 10-second racers to lanes 1,2,3, & 4”

Racers will qualify using a .500 pro tree and the clocks for E-T. There will be qualifying runs on Friday, and on Saturday for those who did not make a time trial on Friday. If time, weather, and oil downs permit, everyone will get one time trial on Saturday.

After the qualifying is completed, Rich Christensen will use the qualifying sheets to select the closest qualified drivers to compete in 8 groups of 16 racers each. The fastest 8 qualified racers will compete in a separate group. These 16 racers will compete in “hot lap” style. The 8 winners of the 1st round will come back up the return road, stopping in front of the grandstands. Drivers will be allowed to add fuel and adjust tires. NPR will have a portable generator and air tank available in front of the stands. The racers will make round 2, with the 4 winners returning to the grandstand area. They will be run 3rd round to get the 2 finalists, who will make their final lap for the $1,000… Then on to the next group of 16 contestants.

HURRICANE GROUP = Fastest 8
HIGH TIDE GROUP= 16-car field
ALLIGATOR GROUP = 16-car field
OYSTER GROUP = 16-car field
MARDI GRAS GROUP = 16-car field
JAMBALAYA GROUP = 16-car field
SHRIMP GROUP = 16-car field
CRAWFISH GROUP = 16-car field
WHITE BEAN GROUP = 16-car field

For example: If we have 50 racers that run between 10.01 and 10.49, but if the closest 16 run between 10.202 and 10.216, those 16 racers will compete for $1,000 in the hot lap arm drop race.

Those racers who do not qualify for the closest 16 in any group will automatically be placed into one of two “bracket” classes. The two bracket classes will be determined by the number of racers, with the fastest ˝ in one group, and the slower ˝ in another group. Each bracket class winner will receive $1,000.

The bracket race will start after the Arm Drop winners are finished. Rich will be signing autographs and “doing his thing” while the NPR staff takes over for the bracket race. This format will give every entrant a “shot” at collecting $1,000, and we believe that the fans will get to see some of the best heads-up racing of the year.

If the Sunday weather forecast is good, and our crew is still standing, NPR will hold a gambler’s race Sunday starting at 10:00 a.m.
